Get Into Reading

Getting started

How it works

Four steps, from finding a list to finishing a book — with a record of everything you've read along the way.

Step 1

Find something worth reading

  1. Browse the lists

Every genre has its own reading list — ten books chosen to show its range, from the classic to the contemporary. Browse by genre, or search for a title or author.

  2. Favourite the lists you like

Tap the star on a list and it's saved under Favourites in "My area", with your progress through it.

  3. Add your own books

Reading something that isn't on a list? Add it from My area and track it just like any other book.

Step 2

Decide what's next

  1. Want to read

Mark anything that catches your eye as Want to read. There's no limit — it's your someday pile.

  2. Going to read

When you're ready to commit, move a book to Going to read. It holds ten books at most, so it stays a real plan rather than a wish list — if it's full, we'll ask which book to swap out.

  3. Up next

Your Up next page shows what you're reading now and what's coming after it, all in one place.

Step 3

While you're reading

  1. Start reading

Click "Track this book" and choose a pace — pages a day, or a target date and we'll work the pace out for you. If there's a session coming up for that genre, the target date starts as the session date.

  2. Log your progress

Record where you've got to by page, chapter or percentage, with an optional note on how that bit felt. You'll see at a glance whether you're on track, ahead or behind.

  3. Check-in emails

Choose how often you'd like a check-in for each book. Reply straight from the email with where you've got to — no need to sign in.

  4. Keep a reading journal

Jot down thoughts, ideas and plot points day by day, linked to the books you're reading. Look back on any day to see your journal alongside everything you logged.

Step 4

When you finish

  1. Rate it and say what worked

Give it a rating, say what you enjoyed and keep your own private notes — a record of what you loved, and why.

  2. Didn't finish? That counts too

Stop a book as Not for me or Didn't finish. Nothing is ever deleted — it all stays in your reading history.

  3. See your reading over time

Every book keeps a timeline from start to finish. Set a yearly reading target and track how many of your committed books you've actually read.

  4. Read on

We'll suggest what to read next, from a list you're following or the list this book came from.

Also included

Monthly sessions

Each month we meet to talk about a genre: some background, then what everyone made of their chosen book. See Events for dates.

Children's reading

Add your children from your Household page. They get their own middle-grade shelf and sign-in, and you can follow their progress.

A weekly round-up

A short email with what you're reading and what's coming up. Change how often it arrives, or turn it off, in your account settings.
